Progressive Download

This method uses a standard web server to deliver video to the end user. It requires that some of the file be downloaded before it can start playing. The video may pause during playback as it waits for more data to be downloaded. This is the least costly method to put video on your site. Does not work for live events.

Streaming Video

This method requires a streaming server which allows playback as soon as the user connects to the server. This method is used for live transmissions. Costs are considerably higher.
